The Essential Guide to SAT Reading

I’ve been tutoring the SAT and ACT since 2006 and I’ve seen all sorts of students, from those trying to get their scores over the 1000 barrier to those demanding a 1500+ from themselves. One thing I’ve seen across the board, however, is a lack of strategic test-taking. This book will reward students who immerse themselves in their studies. The more you put into your practice, the more you’ll get out of it. As you read, you’ll understand the passage by thinking critically about what you are reading. You’ll understand the questions and recognize what the test makers are asking you. You’ll understand the answers and narrow down the multiple choices. You’ll learn to not only find the correct answer but figure out why the incorrect answers are wrong. You’ll also gain confidence and use time effectively, making the most of your strategies and knowledge to maximize your score. Not only are these good skills to possess, but they are also more likely to “stick” on test day than simply taking practice test after practice test and hoping things improve. I can’t promise you that you’ll get a perfect score; you wouldn't believe me if I said that I could. What I can tell you, however, is that this book will make you a better test taker and that the skills you build here will help you beyond high school into college.
